Prenatal Chiropractic Brooklyn, NY
Pregnancy creates significant changes in posture, joint loading, movement, and the demands placed on the lower back and pelvis. Prenatal chiropractic care at Nuro Chiropractic in Brooklyn helps appropriately selected patients manage pregnancy-related musculoskeletal pain and mobility limitations, using techniques modified for comfort and safety throughout pregnancy.
Our team includes Dr. Laina Mette, who is certified in the Webster Technique and associated with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.
How Prenatal Care Works at Our Brooklyn Office
We start with a pregnancy-appropriate history and musculoskeletal examination to determine what is causing your symptoms and whether chiropractic care is appropriate at all. Treatment is then modified based on the stage of pregnancy.
- Gentle chiropractic techniques, and the Webster Technique when appropriate.
- Soft-tissue treatment, mobility work and stretching for the areas carrying the load.
- Recommendations for comfortable movement and positioning that you can use at home and at work.
- Specialized positioning and pregnancy accommodations, so you are never placed uncomfortably on your abdomen.
Complaints We See During Pregnancy
- Lower-back pain
- Pelvic and SI-region pain
- Certain hip and buttock pain
- Mechanical neck and upper-back pain
- Muscular tension and stiffness
- Changes in mobility and movement
These are common, and being common does not mean you have to simply put up with them for another four months. It does mean the examination has to confirm they are musculoskeletal before we treat them as such.
What the Webster Technique Is, and Is Not
“We use it as a chiropractic approach focused on maternal pelvic and surrounding musculoskeletal function. We do not claim that chiropractic adjustments can directly turn a breech baby, induce labor, or guarantee an easier delivery.”
Dr. Brian Donovan, D.C.That distinction matters, because those claims are made frequently and they are not ones we are willing to make. What we are offering is help with the musculoskeletal side of pregnancy, which is a worthwhile thing on its own terms.
When to Call Your Obstetric Provider Instead
Vaginal bleeding, leaking fluid, significant abdominal or pelvic pain, regular premature contractions, severe headache or visual changes, sudden significant swelling, fever, trauma, or decreased fetal movement should go to your obstetric provider or appropriate medical evaluation rather than being assumed musculoskeletal.
High-risk pregnancies, and patients with significant pregnancy complications, may also require clearance or coordination with an OB/GYN or maternal-fetal medicine provider before we begin treatment. We would rather make that call than skip it.
Working Alongside Your Prenatal TeamThe goal is straightforward. Help you move more comfortably, manage the musculoskeletal complaints that genuinely fall within what we treat, and coordinate with the rest of your prenatal healthcare team when that is what the situation calls for.
Prenatal Chiropractic FAQs
Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?
For appropriately selected patients, techniques are modified for comfort and safety through each stage of pregnancy, and we use specialized positioning so you are never placed uncomfortably on your abdomen. Screening matters here more than usual, which is why the examination comes first and why high-risk pregnancies may need clearance from your OB provider.
Can the Webster Technique turn a breech baby?
We do not make that claim. Webster is a chiropractic approach focused on maternal pelvic and surrounding musculoskeletal function. Anything about turning a baby, inducing labor, or guaranteeing an easier delivery goes beyond what we are willing to promise.
How will I be positioned on the table?
With pregnancy accommodations and specialized positioning appropriate to your stage. You will not be asked to lie face down on your abdomen. If a position is uncomfortable, tell us and we will change it rather than having you endure it.
When in pregnancy can I start?
There is no single starting point. What matters is what your symptoms are, what the examination shows, and whether your pregnancy has any complicating factors that call for coordination with your obstetric provider first. Treatment is modified by stage throughout.
Will this help my labor?
We are not going to tell you it will. What prenatal care is genuinely aimed at is helping you move more comfortably and managing pregnancy-related musculoskeletal pain while you are carrying. That is the honest scope of it.
