Nutritional Counseling in Brooklyn, NY

Nutritional counseling at Nuro Chiropractic in Brooklyn, NY

Nutrition plays a real role in overall health, recovery, body composition, energy, and whether healthy habits survive past February. At Nuro Chiropractic in Brooklyn our nutritional counseling is individualized rather than built on fad diets, detoxes, or a one-size-fits-all supplement protocol.

Our team includes Dr. Laina Mette, who holds a Master of Science in Nutrition. That lets us build a proper nutritional component into a patient’s wellness and recovery plan rather than handing out generic advice.

How Nutritional Counseling Works at Our Brooklyn Office

  • 1 Start with a conversation about your current diet, goals, lifestyle, activity level, eating habits, and relevant health history.
  • 2 Identify realistic, evidence-based changes rather than a plan that assumes you have unlimited time and a personal chef.
  • 3 Work through food choices, protein and nutrient intake, meal structure and hydration, which is usually where the meaningful changes live.
  • 4 Add supplementation only where it is appropriate, not as the centrepiece.

The emphasis on realistic is deliberate. A plan you abandon in three weeks has not helped you, however good it looked on paper.

Who It Helps

  • Improving overall diet and eating habits
  • Healthy weight and body composition goals
  • Nutrition for exercise and athletic performance
  • Recovery from musculoskeletal injuries
  • Energy and general wellness
  • Understanding protein, vitamins and hydration

A common reason patients raise it here is recovery. If you are rehabilitating an injury and doing the clinical work properly, it is reasonable to ask whether what you are eating is supporting that or working against it.

Where We Are Not the Right Provider

Nutritional counseling here is not a replacement for medical nutrition therapy when someone has a condition requiring specialized management. Significant kidney, liver, gastrointestinal, endocrine, metabolic or other medical conditions may need your physician and a registered dietitian involved in your care.

Patients with a suspected or diagnosed eating disorder should receive care from appropriately trained medical and behavioral-health professionals. That is a different specialty and it matters that it is treated as one.

We also do not use supplements or nutrition plans as a substitute for appropriate medical treatment.

What We Are Actually Trying to Do

“Our goal is not to give everyone the same diet or a cabinet full of supplements. It is to look at how you are currently eating, understand what you are trying to accomplish, and make practical, evidence-based changes that you can actually maintain.”

Dr. Brian Donovan, D.C.
Sustainable Beats Impressive

Restrictive plans tend to produce fast results and short adherence. We would rather find the two or three changes that fit your week and hold, then build from there once those are automatic.

Nutritional Counseling FAQs

Will you put me on a specific diet?

No. We start from how you currently eat and what you are trying to accomplish, then make changes you can maintain. Handing every patient the same diet ignores the fact that adherence is the variable that decides whether any of it works.

Do I have to buy supplements?

Supplementation comes in when it is appropriate, not as the default. Most of the meaningful changes involve food choices, protein and nutrient intake, meal structure and hydration. A cabinet full of bottles is not the goal.

Can nutrition help my injury recover faster?

Nutrition can support recovery from musculoskeletal injuries, which is different from driving it. The rehabilitation and the loading are still what rebuild the tissue. Getting your intake right removes an obstacle rather than replacing the work.

Should I see a dietitian instead?

If you have a medical condition requiring specialized management, yes, and often alongside your physician. For general habits, body composition, performance and recovery, what we offer here is a reasonable fit. We will tell you which situation you are in.

What qualifications does your team have in nutrition?

Dr. Laina Mette holds a Master of Science in Nutrition, which is why we offer this as a considered service rather than as side commentary during an adjustment.

Practical Changes You Can Actually Keep

Bring us what you are eating now and what you are trying to change. We will work out what is realistic and evidence-based for your situation and build from there. Our new patient offer is a straightforward way to start.
