Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear Answers. More Confidence in Your Care.

From your first appointment to payment options, find answers to the questions we hear most at Nuro Chiropractic in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

Your first visit

A little preparation. A more comfortable start.

What should I expect on my first visit?

Your first visit starts with a conversation, not an adjustment. We want to know what’s bothering you, how long it’s been going on, what you’ve already tried, and how it’s affecting your daily life. From there we perform a thorough exam and take digital X-rays in-office when they’re clinically necessary. See our first visit guide for a full walkthrough.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

No referral is required. You can schedule directly, and we’ll handle the exam, diagnosis, and treatment plan from there. If your case needs a different type of provider, we’ll tell you and make the appropriate referral.

What should I wear or bring to my appointment?

Comfortable clothing you can move easily in. If you have prior imaging, medical records, or a list of current medications, bring those along too.

What areas do you serve?

Patients from Bay Ridge, Staten Island, Bensonhurst, Park Slope, Prospect Park, Borough Park, Manhattan, Dyker Heights, and Williamsburg.

Insurance & payment

Understand your options before you begin.

Does insurance cover chiropractic care?

We accept workers’ compensation and No-Fault insurance, along with HSA/FSA, CareCredit, credit cards, Apple Pay, and cash. Visit our insurance and payment page for the full breakdown.

How much does the first visit cost?

New patients start with a $49.95 offer covering two visits: consultation, exam, X-rays if clinically necessary, and treatment on both days.

What payment options do you accept?

HSA and FSA cards, CareCredit, credit cards, Apple Pay, tap to pay, and cash, in addition to workers’ compensation and No-Fault insurance.

Why don’t you take all insurance plans?

So insurance coverage doesn’t dictate your clinical care. Dr. Donovan tells you what he believes you need first, and then we have an honest conversation about paying for it, whether through insurance, out of pocket, or a combination.

Can I use my health savings account or flexible spending account?

Yes, we accept both HSA and FSA cards.

Will I have to commit to a long treatment plan right away?

No. The $49.95 introductory offer covers two visits, enough to understand what’s going on, experience treatment, and decide if we’re the right fit, before any commitment to ongoing care is discussed.

Care & comfort

Know what goes into your treatment plan.

Will I need X-rays?

Only when they’re clinically appropriate. We have digital X-ray in-office, and we use it to confirm what’s actually going on rather than guess, not as a routine step for every patient.

Is a chiropractic adjustment safe? Does it hurt?

A good adjustment isn’t defined by how much force is used or how loud it sounds. Technique is matched to your age, condition, and comfort level, and plenty of effective care doesn’t involve a “pop” at all.

How many visits will I need?

It depends entirely on the exam findings and how you respond to care. There’s no standard package here. Plans are reassessed regularly, and if something isn’t working, we change course instead of booking more of the same.

Do I have to get adjusted every visit?

No. An adjustment is one tool among several, including targeted stretching, spinal or extremity decompression, SoftWave therapy, laser therapy, cryotherapy, and PEMF. If an exam shows an adjustment isn’t what you need that day, we won’t do one just for the sake of it.

Does SoftWave Therapy hurt?

It can be uncomfortable in spots but is generally well tolerated, and intensity is adjusted throughout the treatment based on your feedback. More detail is on our SoftWave therapy page.

Will you try to get me to come in three times a week forever?

No. Treatment plans vary by condition and are continuously reassessed, adjusting the frequency and approach if you aren’t responding as expected rather than running everyone through the same schedule.

Conditions & treatments

Explore the care available at our practice.

What conditions do you treat?

Back and neck pain, sciatica, herniated discs, headaches, sports injuries, and dozens of other musculoskeletal conditions. See the full list on our conditions we treat page.

Can you help after a car accident?

Yes. We document the injury with a full exam and X-rays when appropriate, and treatment following an accident may be covered through New York’s No-Fault insurance regardless of fault. Learn more on our auto accident care page.

Do you treat children?

Yes, with techniques and force modified for age, size, and development. Visit our pediatric chiropractic page for details.

What equipment and technology do you use?

Our toolbox includes chiropractic adjustments, spinal and extremity decompression, SoftWave therapy, Class IV laser therapy, cryotherapy, and PEMF, among other rehabilitation tools. Nothing gets used without a clinical reason behind it.

Our approach

How we listen, evaluate, and guide your next steps.

I’ve already tried physical therapy, medication, or other chiropractors. Why would this be different?

We’re not here to convince you chiropractic is the answer to everything. We’re here to figure out what’s actually going on and whether we have something that can help. Chronic doesn’t mean hopeless, it usually just means the problem needs to be looked at differently.

What if my case isn’t right for chiropractic care?

We’ll tell you. If the exam points to something outside our scope, imaging we can’t provide, or another specialist, we’ll make that referral rather than treat something that needs a different level of care.

What makes your clinic different from other chiropractors in Brooklyn?

Everything we do starts with diagnostics and understanding why a problem is happening, not just where it hurts. Dr. Donovan researches new techniques and technology, but nothing gets used without a clinical reason behind it. Patients regularly tell us we’re the first providers who actually listened and gave them a clear plan instead of rushing them through.

I’ve had my pain for years. Can you actually help me?

Chronic doesn’t mean hopeless, it usually just means the problem needs a different approach. Many patients come to us after years of frustration with other providers. We reassess throughout care, and if something isn’t producing results, we adjust the plan rather than repeating it indefinitely.

Still Have Questions?

Just Ask, No Pressure

Call the office directly, or come in for your first visit and ask us in person. We would rather explain something twice than have you show up unsure of what to expect.
