Personal Injury Care in Brooklyn, NY

Personal injury care at Nuro Chiropractic in Brooklyn, NY with Dr. Brian Donovan

When you are hurt in an accident, you end up carrying two problems at once. There is the injury itself, and there is the record of it. I am Dr. Brian Donovan, and personal injury care at Nuro Chiropractic in Brooklyn is built around both.

The clinical side is the same standard I apply to everything here. Diagnosis first, treatment second. The difference is that from the first visit forward we are also building a clear, accurate record of what happened to you and how you recover.

How an Injury Chiropractor Differs From a General One

A wellness patient and an injury patient walk in with different needs. The wellness patient wants to feel and move better. The injury patient needs that too, plus a documented answer to what was injured, when, and how it has changed since.

  • Mechanism of injury recorded in detail
  • Objective examination findings, not just pain
  • A baseline to measure recovery against
  • Functional limitations written down
  • Progress tracked visit over visit
  • Referrals documented when needed

That is why I take so much time on the history. How the injury happened, what position your body was in, what you felt immediately, and what developed over the following days all matter clinically. They also matter to anyone later trying to understand your case.

Injuries We See at Our Brooklyn Office

Personal injury is a category defined by how you were hurt rather than by one diagnosis. The most common presentations here are:

If your injury came from a collision, our auto accident care page covers how that evaluation works in more detail. This page is about the wider picture, including how the record gets built.

How the First Visit Works

  • 1 A detailed history of the incident: how it happened, your position, what you felt immediately, and what has developed since.
  • 2 A comprehensive orthopedic, neurological and musculoskeletal examination covering range of motion, strength, sensation, and reflexes where indicated.
  • 3 Digital X-ray in the office when clinically appropriate, and referral for advanced imaging when the examination points to something an X-ray cannot show.
  • 4 A diagnosis explained in plain terms, a treatment plan matched to the stage of your injury, and objective baseline measurements recorded.

Treatment early on is not aggressive. It matches what your body can tolerate and progresses as you improve, which for most injury patients means starting gently and building toward active rehabilitation.

Why the Documentation Matters

“Whether someone is using Workers Compensation or paying for care another way, my clinical approach does not change.”

Dr. Brian Donovan, D.C.

We maintain a clear record of how the injury occurred, your symptoms, objective examination findings, the diagnosis, your functional limitations, the treatment provided, and your progress over time. When appropriate we coordinate with other providers involved in your care, and within the New York Workers Compensation system for work-related injuries.

I want to be straightforward about what that is and is not. Good documentation is a byproduct of doing the clinical work properly. It is not a substitute for it, and no record changes what your examination actually shows.

Do Not Wait to Be Evaluated

The single most common problem I see is delay. Adrenaline and the body’s acute stress response can mask symptoms right after an incident, and stiffness, headaches or radiating symptoms often surface hours or days later.

By the time someone comes in weeks later, they have usually developed new ways of moving to cope. They turn the whole body instead of the neck, sleep differently, avoid exercise, sit differently at work. Now there is a second problem layered on the first, and the examination has to untangle both.

Significant trauma, loss of consciousness, a severe or rapidly worsening headache, confusion, difficulty speaking or walking, new significant weakness or numbness, chest or abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, or uncontrolled bleeding needs emergency medical evaluation first. This office is not the first stop for any of those.

Personal Injury Care FAQs

How do I pay for care after an injury?

We take no-fault and workers compensation, which covers a large share of injury patients in New York. We verify your benefits so you know where you stand rather than guessing. If neither applies to your situation, our new patient offer is a straightforward way to get evaluated.

How soon after an accident should I be seen?

Sooner is better, and that is a clinical opinion before it is anything else. Early evaluation establishes a baseline while your findings are fresh, and it catches problems before you have spent weeks guarding and compensating around them.

I only feel a little sore. Is that worth an appointment?

Usually yes. You do not have to be in severe pain to be worth examining. Patients often say they are just a little sore, then mention they cannot turn their neck as far as usual or they are getting headaches they did not have before. Those details are the ones worth catching early.

Can you provide records for my case?

We keep detailed clinical records from the first examination forward and can provide them as appropriate. What I will not do is write findings to suit anyone’s preferred outcome. The record says what the examination showed, which is what makes it worth having.

How long will treatment take?

There is no standard timeline, because it depends on what was injured and how you respond. Some patients recover quickly with straightforward care. Others need a longer, more comprehensive approach. I reassess as we go and adjust the plan based on functional improvement rather than running a fixed number of visits.

Get Evaluated, Then Get the Record Right

The goal is to work out what the incident actually did to your body, treat it properly, and come out the other side with your function back and a clear account of how you got there. Call us or request an appointment and we will start with the examination.
